in which I grovel for not posting regularly…

If you haven’t noticed, I kind of abandoned the blog. So much for taking a photo every day. Woops!

I have not, however, abandoned cordcutting! After the court issued an injunction against ivi, I panicked. I wasn’t sure what do with myself. I spent about a day moping, and then decided to tackle the quest to find an antenna. I’m not sure why I had been so intimidated by the antenna, but it was neither complicated nor expensive. http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2103077&filterName=Price&filterValue=%2410.00+-+%2449.99. It took a bit of troubleshooting, thanks to @janko and @cordcutters, but $12 later, I get all the same channels I had with ivi, and better yet, for FREE. I can’t believe I used to pay a cable bill when every channel I watched, save for USA’s Law and Order marathons, over-the-air. Additionally I helped convince my friend Samantha to cut the cord, too! Now she’s sending ME tips on how to hook up my computer to the TV for Netflix streaming!

I’m also back to trying to cook more often, and trying new things in the kitchen. My latest adventures? Tofu and capers. I actually like tofu when it’s in other things, so I figured I would buy it and give it a try. I’m not a vegetarian, but I don’t often cook with meat at home, so tofu is probably a good thing to add to the repertoire. Capers are pretty fun, too. They add a nice salty zip to dishes, and I love them with orzo and tofu. I made this awhile back and it’s fantastic: http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/Jennifer-Garners-Shrimp-and-Orzo-230166. Then I made the lazy woman’s version with tofu, added some chickpeas, and still fantastic. Go me.

I promise to try and be better about blogging! And I will do my best to post about the cordcutting panel at the National Conference for Media Reform! http://conference.freepress.net/session/470/cutting-cord-future-video. Will you be there? Come say hi!

Court Rules Ivi.tv Not a Cable System, Issues Injunction

Streaming TV startup Ivi.tv has tried to build a business on re-broadcasting TV content online, raising the ire of several big broadcasters who took it to court, hoping to shut down its streams. Well Naomi Rice Buchwald, U.S. district court judge for the Southern District of New York, is siding with those broadcasters. The judge has issued a preliminary injunction against Ivi.tv, ruling that its practice of retransmitting broadcast TV signals without copyright owners’ consent was not protected by a 70s-era copyright loophole, mainly because the startup doesn’t qualify as a cable system.

Al-Jazeera, Roku and the Future of Online Video

When the political upheaval in Egypt erupted late last month, many Americans hoped their cable news networks would be quick to cover the unfolding events. Instead, outlets like CNN, MSNBC and Fox News failed to cover the crisis in Egypt at all, and then struggled to play catch-up with international news organizations.

Bill Moyers quoted me...

Found out today that in his keynote speech last week to the History Makers conference, Bill Moyers — THE Bill Moyers — quoted me by name and read two paragraphs from my piece in Yes! Magazine (linked above). Oh. My. Gosh. I’m on a cloud.
